I did it – I finally set up this newsletter that all of you signed up for. Fun fact, it wasn’t even kind of built out or constructed even in the slightest when I opened up submissions 2 weeks ago. So really, you all signed up for something that technically didn’t exist, but we’re here now! Most of my ideas work that way but hopefully this will keep me responsible since there’s a loose deadline I’ve set for myself. Also, I know I’ve said this probably 5 to 10 times now on Instagram in various ways but I’m thankful for the small group of subscribers that joined almost instantly when I announced this project, it means a lot to me. I’ve had the idea to do some kind of newsletter or email list for about 6-8 months now and I’m happy to see it coming together much quicker than I expected after deciding to follow through.
I want this to be informative to a degree, but I mainly want each installment to feed you creatively and urge you to dig deeper into not only what I talk about here, but your own creative work and thoughts.

Before starting this, I overthought just about every single element to what makes this project what it is. As a multi-faceted and very abstract idea I was intimidated at the thought of starting this newsletter because it’s not precise with its aim… Some weeks will most likely be very scattered and loosely put together. Other weeks will potentially be very long and introspective. I’m perfectly fine with both because I think every creative person can testify to the incontrovertibly true reality that a creative mind is often a scattered one.
In contrast to this reality, I often remind myself of the quote that is, “an unexamined life is not one worth living.” — if this is true does the scattered mind of an artist automatically render all of the ideas bouncing around in it worthless due to an intrinsic unexamined existence? I don’t think so, but I do think there needs to be a place for the ideas to get spat out even if they fall flat and don’t present themselves as picture perfect as they did to the artist when the idea was born.
The Newsletter is that place for me. Mixed with a little bit of food for thought.

That being said, I’m excited to see where this goes and how it evolves. Hopefully it somehow creates a bond for everybody that’s subscribed to this… Maybe it’s a conversation piece when you grab a cup of coffee with someone and don’t know what to talk about, or maybe you only read half of the newsletters that I send to you because your email filter throws them in a folder you never check. Ether way, I’m looking forward to the responsibility of delivering this to your inboxes somewhat regularly.
Lastly, please feel free to respond to this email with suggestions, questions, or topics! I’m considering ways that I could create more engagement with those of you who are subscribed and possibly do something more than just write. This week was very wordy, but some weeks will be heavily supported by visuals. Thank you for reading Week 1. Talk to you later.

Also, I want to give a huge thank you to @saintnic_ – he’s the one responsible for the render of my ‘Studio Seating’ piece that’s been floating around as a decoration in all of the promo/posts for this newsletter. Go follow him on Twitter and look at his work.
