Historically all humans have always had an insatiable desire for something more. We see this within the context of power, wealth, relationships, possessions, and self-expression. I believe that the hunger for more (within the context of self-expression and creative output) is valid, and in every sense of the word, necessary. Without the desire for something greater than ourselves to come out of ourselves, life itself feels vapid and formless.
With this in mind, we must always strive for a life that prioritizes output in some form or fashion. Without output, we deprive our souls of doing what we were made to do – create. Despite preconceived notions and potential offense towards the statement “we must create”, we have to accept the reality that creating does not require a brush and a canvas. Contrary to popular belief, everyone creates something every single day, whether it resonates with you or not.
With choices, we create outcomes. Consequently, we have to deal with the outcomes of our choices and what they cost in terms of time and energy. This will encourage those who dare to create from a place of passion and challenge those who feel like they can’t seem to take the risk they’ve been meaning to take.
But as I’ve thought more about this concept of creating, or for the sake of this train of thought, “flushing out our system,” I’ve concluded that everyone will get what they need out of their system one way or another, even if they don’t consciously decide to.
In theory, the patterns people choose are (in a sense) the creation of a life that they live…
Those who are infatuated with fashion, appearance, or portraying themselves in a way that strays from the norm – might not have another creative outlet to funnel their energy into.
Those who have strong thoughts but don’t feel heard, or given a listening ear on the regular will take to social media to make sure they scratch that itch and release their thoughts into the world.
Those wishing they saw more change in the world pick a drastic side to fight for.
Those seeking to fill a void will make a choice to fill it, regardless of whether the solution is beneficial to them or not.
Those wishing they were more fulfilled, will seek external sources to make them feel as if they’ve been made whole.
Those who feel as if they don’t have an identity will create one for themselves.
Regardless of age, maturity, stage of life, or lexicon – we all “flush our system” out on the regular. We might not feel like we’re creating, but our innate, God-given urge will create autonomously whether we realize it or not. Whether it benefits us, or tears us down, whether it allows a small step forward or two steps back – everyone will create something every single day for themselves. So the question has to be asked for ourselves and for those we love. Are you happy with the life you're creating?
